Hey, I’m Dallin Sorensen. I’ve spent the last 3 years learning about how to break into the Financial Planning field and I’m here to help you do the same.
Earnest means sincere or with great conviction. I started Earnest Earnings because I’ve felt that great conviction for this career path. But since financial planning is a poorly regulated industry, any second-rate or sleazy job opening can be called a financial planner. I want to make it easy for beginners to get a job doing sincere work with great conviction. Life’s too short for anything else.
I know I still have a lot to learn about the field but I have a strong desire to help others get into this wonderful career. Especially college students. Here’s my article for how college students can get a financial planning job while still in school.

Experience
I’m currently working as an Associate Financial Planner at a small RIA. I’m also working as a Tax Preparer at H&R Block. I’ve had a few internships in financial planning and tax. I’ve been an active member and Vice President of the Wealth Management Society at Brigham Young University – Idaho. I’m preparing for a career of providing financial and tax advice to individuals. I would like to serve the website owners niche someday.
Writing dozens of articles for this site has also given me more exposure to the details of financial planning through research and interviews.
Education / Certifications
I’m a licensed Enrolled Agent through the IRS. That means I’ve passed some tax tests about individual taxes, business taxes, and interacting with the IRS. I’ve passed the Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam (Series 65) and the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam. I’ll sit for the CFP exam in November of 2024.
I’m pursuing a Bachelor’s in Business Finance at Brigham Young University – Idaho but my real interest is my Minor in Financial Planning. I plan on pursuing a Master’s Degree in Financial Planning after graduation.
